Varied Conditions
Rather Cool or Cold

Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 24th March 2018
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Rather changeable and often varied conditions this weekend across Europe but it is low pressure that continues to be the dominant feature for most areas

Saturday
Into Saturday and low pressure will maintain unsettled weather across much of France and down into Spain and Portugal with rain or showers here and still quite windy. Low pressure and weather fronts will move into much of Scandinavia bringing a significant snowfall event to more central and northern areas of Norway, Sweden and Finland, but with rain more likely across southern areas of Scandinavia and also across Denmark too. Low pressure remains slow moving through much of the Med, even affecting parts of N Africa too with rain or showers here with some particularly unusually unsettled weather across Morocco and the far north of Algeria. Low pressure will also maintain a risk of rain or showers across more central and eastern areas of the Med too. Some of the best conditions through Saturday will be across more eastern areas of Europe as a weak area of high pressure brings more settled, drier weather with some sunshine across parts of the Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary and northern areas of Romania for example.

Sunday
During Sunday and the best of the weather will continue to be through some central and eastern areas of Europe with plenty of fine weather across parts of Romania, Ukraine, Belarus and parts of Poland, while cold at night it will be dry by day with some sunny spells. Low pressure will, however, maintain unsettled weather with some rain or showers across much of Iberia and another, separate low pressure, will bring further wet and windy weather to parts of Italy. A weak low pressure is likely to bring showery conditions to parts of France, while the British Isles experience a fair weather day with some sunny spells and just a few scattered showers. Low pressure remains slow moving across Scandinavia mind, with a marked boundary in temperatures here. Very cold with some significant snow is set to continue across more central and northern areas of Norway, Sweden and Finland, but less-cold wet weather, with rain or showers across more southern areas of Scandinavia and perhaps down into Denmark too.
