Duty forecaster: Filotas Paschos
A cold period for Central and Northern Europe with outbreaks of snow. Unsettled over the west with heavy rain and strong winds. Becoming unsettled over the Mediterranean too
A mostly dry start to the day across Portugal, Spain and most parts of France, but a developing low pressure system over the Biscay will push east some rain, this becoming heavy across Portugal, Galicia and Brittany along with strengthening winds. Over the UK it will be a frosty start with some light snow in east, but rain and wind will affect Cornwall later in the day. Balearics, Corsica and Sardinia as well as Italy and Malta will enjoy a dry and sunny Sunday with light winds. Rather cloudy over Greece and Turkey with outbreaks of rain later in Greece, with Turkey remaining fairly dry. Further north a of snow is expected over the Low Countries as well as north Germany, while it will be dry and bright elsewhere across Central Europe and the Balkans. However due to the snow covered ground it will feel bitterly cold. Scandinavia and Finland will see most dry condition with a few light snow showers.
Any remaining snow across the Baltic States, Belarus and north Ukraine will gradually clear away with drier but very cold conditions following.
Low pressure system will bring unsettled weather over Western Europe with strong to gale force winds, and heavy rain in places. Brief period of hill snow over the UK. Some heavy showers over the Balearics, Corsica and Sardinia as well as north and west Italy, while over Greece it stays cloudy with outbreaks of rain, this extending over western Turkey later. Some sleet/snow over the Low Countries but it will turn into rain soon. Otherwise apart from some snow showers over Germany, elsewhere across central and Eastern Europe will enjoy dry and bright condition, but very cold too with some persisting freezing fog in valleys.
